He ain't a HERO!!

Image
We the 90s kids were born at a time, when the nation wanted their kids to be an engineer or a doctor. Atleast the educated class wanted their kids to be either one of them. I believe this attitude is changing now, because as the stand up comedians say 'There are more engineers in a gully than street dogs these days!'. And in the coming times, this might hold true for doctors as well! However this guy whose legend I am about to narrate unto you, was born at a time, where becoming a doctor is a big big deal, and there were only 3 government medical college in the whole state of Karnataka. He belonged to a rural area in Chikkamagaluru district, born in a family which essentially didn't really care if their children studied or not. He was a kid who used to study by himself. No adult nagged him to study. He used to study even when he had to wait for the bus while returning from high school. Unlike me, nobody really encouraged him to become a Doctor. But he wanted to be one! His ...

An year in Psychiatry

Image
With an inquisitive mind to unravel the un-unravelable mysteries of human mind and to satisfy the novelty seeking thirst of my soul, which was bored by the mundane medical stuff - did I enter Psychiatry. Of course I couldn't completetely get rid of mundane medical stuff. Because apparently the "other world famous Psychiatry hospital" refers Psychiatry patients with mundane medical stuff, such as those with hypertension whose BP doesn't come under control on Amlong 5mg to St Johns for "multidisciplinary management". But thanks to them in a way, we get to see a variety of patients. Nonetheless the 1 year journey in Psychiatry has been amazing with its cyclothymic ups and downs. From blankly staring at slides during academics to trying to make sense of things ; From being tremulous while giving ECTs (1)to patients, to appreciating it's miracles (and wishing someone could give it to me, to improve my mood); From getting annoyed by the only TELUGU...

BE THAT BOOT LICKER

It was during my internship time in 2020.  There was some friction between a particular teacher and our batch. The context of conflict being, a redundant punishment some of my batchmates got for a minor mistake that they did. It was like what you say -  killing a fly with a canon.I wouldn't go into the details of this.  Anyways, the batch decided to take this matter seriously. The way our batchmates were treated was completely unfair. I don't intend to demonise that teacher by writing this blog. But there's a lesson I learnt from the sequence of events that unfolded after this issue, which I am trying to share. I highly respect this particular teacher, but none of us are saints! So we planned to approach the Director of the institute who was indubitably 'Student friendly'. And somehow we managed to take advantage of it as well, I would say. Anyways we approached him and I happen to handle a letter (which was authored by me) over to him with my batchmates signatures ...

A KING WITHOUT A CROWN 👑

Image
In a desert land, wherein dwelled uncivilized communities, which mistreated their women and slaves; which buried their daughters alive and which shed each others blood in the name of clans - was born a king ! A king who neither sat on a throne nor wore a crown; A king who neither wore silk nor gold; A king who starved at times and lived in a brick house of few square feets!  Before he became a king, he was known to his people as 'Al-Ameen' (The trustworthy), for he was truthful and honest. He took care of the orphans and widows, and was known for his charecter and morality.  And when came unto him the message from the divine, his life changed. He became - a preacher and teacher in the day, and a monk in the night; A leader in the society, and a family man at home; A warrior in the battle field, and an arbitrator of his people. His message to humankind - Surrender and worship the one who created you and not his creations; Honour your parents and lead a life ...

Ramadhan 🌙 - The month of FASTING

Image
Introduction  The new moon of Ramadhan is awaited with excitement by every beleiving Muslim throughout the world! And why wouldn't he/she be excited for this blessed month? Ramadhan or Ramzan - the 9th month of Islamic calender (AKA Hijri calender). A month wherein God opens his doors of mercy & closes his doors of anger. A month wherein the first few verses of the Quran were revealed & a month wherein he has commanded his beleivers to fast from dawn to dusk.  How do Muslims fast? Muslims are supposed to have a pre dawn meal (AKA Suhoor around 4:30 AM) and not consume any food or drink and avoid sexual pleasures from dawn till sunset. There is an exception however for those who are sick or are travelling who can makeup those fasts later on. Those who can't fast at all (like the elderly or those with chronic illness), can feed a poor person for every day of missed fast. Why has God commanded to FAST? When a person fasts, he is supposed to control the three b...

The FLOCCINAUCINIHILIPILIFICATED ganji

It was one of those late nights of Ramadan (1). I was having Suhoor (2) with my dad. While I was having Ganji (3), my dad was waiting for mom to prepare Patthir (Rice roti).  Mom had cooked Ganji from cooker that night, (as it takes less time) and dad didn't like cooker made Ganji. I asked my dad : "Why is it that you don't eat cooker made Ganji?" Dad replied: "Because a cooker made ganji made in haste is less tastier than a ganji made in a normal vessel which takes its time to cook"  Hearing these words, made me have an epiphany. I rhetorically remarked: "So are human beings!" He replied: "Yes! So are human beings. A person who thrived with patience is qualitatively better than a person who flourished in no time" A person who took shortcuts might enjoy certain short-term benifits, but in the long run, the one who struggled his way up with patience and perseverance - it is he who has tasted his success. As a matter of fact, we human being...

The NON-FICTITIOUS FICTIONAL land of DOREMONIA.

Image
In the land of DOREMONIA, there lived three communities. Gian, Sunio and Nobitha. Gian was a powerful community. Not very smart, but powerful. Sunio was a rich, civilized, educated and clever community.  Nobitha was a poor, uneducated, uncivilized & ignorant community. Gianians and Sunions were close allies. Not that they liked each other, but because they benefited from each other. They both owned the lion's share of wealth and power. Whereas Nobithians barely had any power or wealth. Most of them did menial works to make ends meet. Nobithians had an inferiority complex. They viewed Gian and Sunio with admirance and even felt jealous of what they posessed. Gianians and Sunions on the other hand viewed Nobithians with despise.  Good and bad people existed in equal proportion in all the three communities. However, Gian and Sunio were able to dilute their wrongdoings as they had administration in their fingertips & were well aware of the loopholes within t...
